About the Role
This is a Fixed Term contract for 2 years.
Apprenticeship pay rates for this post are dependent on age. Please see below for the applicable rates:
Level 4 Apprenticeship Rates:
18-20 years - £20,063 per annum
21+ years - £23,555 per annum
We are seeking aa Apprentice Science Technician to join our team. You will work in a busy team supporting Science practicals for GCSE and A-level Sciences, level 2 and 3 BTEC Applied Science, and Level 2 and 3 Access Science courses. You will work well independently and as part of a team to prepare resources for practical sessions and occasionally support in the laboratory. We currently have a team of 2 Laboratory Technicians and due to expansion are adding to our team.
What You Will Do
- You will support with the preparation, delivery and setting up of all equipment (where necessary) for use by staff and students including related paperwork for practical sessions.
- Support with ensuring workshops, laboratories, classrooms and all equipment used are kept clean, tidy and in a safe condition.
- Support carrying out routine and non-routine checking and fault investigation of all commonly used equipment and report to the lead technician in cases where replacements/further investigation might be required.
- Monitor supplies of stock, especially those in frequent use, and inform senior technicians when further supplies are needed.
- Be responsible for the safe storage of equipment and materials.
About You
- GCSE English and Maths, grade A* - C or equivalent.
- A level 3 Science qualification.
- You will have good communication skills.
- Be able to effectively manage your time and resources.
- Have a science background and an understanding of health and safety regulations as well as an understanding of relevant policies and codes of practice.
- Previous experience of working in an educational environment.
- Able to work on own initiative and within a team.
