Apprentice Teacher - Graphic Design (Fixed Term)

About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for an Apprentice Teacher in Graphic Design.  We are looking for someone to join our academic team with a specialist background in Graphic Design with the ability to deliver on our BTEC courses within our visual arts department. This role is fixed term for 24 months.

The Visual Arts department at Leeds City College is leading the way across the West Yorkshire region by offering a wide provision of industry led courses, including BTEC and Access to HE which specifically prepare the next generation of creatives for University and/or working in the creative industries. We are a team of both industry and specialist academic teachers who ensure that each of our students is provided with an exceptional experience with outcomes to match. 

What You Will Do

Over a two-year apprenticeship, you will be learn to become an outstanding teacher,
whose main duties will include:

  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.

  • Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding to learners.

  • Create individual SMART learning targets linked to learner study programme/course

  • and track and monitor progress against these.

  • Responsible for recording student progress and supporting students to achieve targets.

  • Delivery of a minimum of 100 teaching hours over the two year period.

About You

  • Studying towards a higher level teaching apprenticeship (L5 Diploma in Education and Training) over a period of 24 months while in post

  • Acquire L2 Safeguarding qualification upon completion of the apprenticeship

  • Relevant highest level vocational qualification in teaching subject (at least at L3)

  • English, maths and ICT at Level 2 prior to commencing training or prior to completion of the apprenticeship

  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge in specific subject area (e.g. Adobe Suite) and up to date knowledge of workplace practice

  • Exceptional verbal /written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs

  • Ability to follow direction and constructive feedback, to help support development as a teaching practitioner, applying theory to practical application in an education setting

  • IT literate including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases i.e. Microsoft Word, Access and Excel and Google platforms

  • Excellent organisational skills, to ensure deadlines are met
