Assistant Principal

About the Role

The Assistant Principal provides senior leadership at Keighley College and deputises for the Principal as required, exercising decision-making authority and leadership presence. The role is responsible for the curriculum quality, performance and learner outcomes of the Study Programmes, and contributes to whole-college strategy and operational leadership.

What You Will Do

  • To lead and manage a department and cost centre in line with the responsibilities of a Head of Department  
  • To act as a role model to other leaders and managers across the provision 
  • Support the Principal, to ensure that provision is innovatively developed to meet local, regional and national priorities and provides transitional progression pathways across all levels 
  • Actively contribute to the development an exemplary culture that ensures the safeguarding of learners, wellbeing of colleagues and Health & Safety of all  
  • Develop and lead strategies, partnerships and projects with the intent to support outstanding outcomes for students 
  • Develop strong effective working relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that Keighley aligns to national priorities and has a strong reputation in the city and region. 

About You

  • You will be an ambitious and values-driven leader with a strong commitment to improving the life chances of young people through high-quality further education.
  • You will have significant experience of leading 16–19 provision within an FE environment and a proven ability to improve learner outcomes, attendance, engagement, and progression. You will be confident using data and performance measures to drive improvement, while maintaining a strong focus on inclusion, wellbeing, and learner experience.
  • You will be an effective people leader who can inspire, challenge, and support staff to achieve high standards. You will build positive relationships across curriculum teams and with external stakeholders, including employers, schools, and local authority partners.
  • You will understand the importance of creating a culture built on high expectations, collaboration, safeguarding, and restorative practice. You will be passionate about developing innovative and employer-responsive provision that reflects local and regional skills priorities.
  • Most importantly, you will place learners at the centre of decision-making and be committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students can thrive, progress, and succeed.
