About the Role
Are you passionate about improving the lives of young people who have become disengaged from mainstream education?
We are seeking a committed and organised Attendance Officer to support the success of learners within the 14 - 16 Skills Programme.
This is a unique opportunity to work within a specialist department that delivers alternative education to school aged learners. You will play a key role in promoting high attendance, supporting pastoral care, and working closely with students, families, and external agencies to remove barriers to learning.
What You Will Do
- As the Attendance Officer for the 14 - 16 Skills Programme, you will take the lead in monitoring daily attendance across the department.
- Manage the attendance line, accurately record absences, and ensure registers are promptly updated on the College’s MIS system.
- Analyse attendance data to identify concerns, follow up on absences with students and families, and organise interventions, including home visits to support re-engagement.
- Play a key pastoral role by working 121 with our students, supporting them to overcome personal and educational barriers. This includes, setting SMART targets, maintaining regular contact with families, and liaising with external agencies where necessary.
- Act as a Key Worker for some learners, offering consistent and tailored support to help them thrive both academically and personally.
- Collaboration will be central to your work. You will attend team meetings, attendance meetings, reviews, and work alongside the Safeguarding Team to ensure every student is safe and supported.
- You’ll also contribute to events such as enrolment and parent/carer workshops, maintain detailed records of all communications and interventions, and bring fresh ideas to help the department improve attendance and engagement across the programme.

- Experienced in working with young people, particularly those at risk of disengagement.
- Passionate about inclusive education and student success.
- Highly organised, reliable, and professional in communication.
- Skilled at building trust with students and families.
- Confident using MIS and administrative systems.
- Resilient, solution-focused, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
