Course Leader - Joinery

About the Role

Harrogate College is looking for a Joinery Course Leader to join the team!!

This is a new position within the department. You will be responsible for shaping and delivering a curriculum that focuses on bench and site joinery within our construction department. The role combines academic leadership, industry relevance, and a focus on key knowledge, skills, and behaviours to equip learners with the necessary tools to thrive in a rapidly evolving sector.

This position plays a crucial role in aligning education with the growing demand of the construction industry within the community of North Yorkshire. The role requires a dynamic individual with deep knowledge of joinery practices who can inspire both students and faculty to achieve excellence.

What You Will Do

  • Curriculum Development & Innovation: You will lead the design and implementation of new modules and courses that are relevant to current and future industry needs.
  • High-Quality Delivery & Student Outcomes: You'll work closely with the teaching team to maintain high-quality delivery and adapt teaching practices to meet the diverse needs of students while ensuring they acquire the skills required for the joinery trade.
  • Industry & Policy Alignment: This includes preparing students for the evolving expectations of the labour market in site and bench joinery sectors.
  • Team Leadership & Professional Development: Leading a team of educators, you'll encourage continuous professional development to ensure all staff are up-to-date with the latest advancements and industry updates.
  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring: You’ll be responsible for developing comprehensive assessment strategies that provide meaningful feedback to students, helping them progress in their learning and development.
  • Student Engagement & Support: The role demands a passion for motivating and inspiring students to not only meet academic goals but to think creatively about their role in a sustainable future.
  • Quality Assurance & Improvement: As part of maintaining high standards, you will complete course-level self-assessments and contribute to ongoing quality improvement plans.
  • Promotion & Outreach: You’ll play a key role in attracting new talent to the college and highlighting the diverse career opportunities available in this field.

About You

We are seeking a creative, dynamic, and forward-thinking practitioner with a passion for woodwork and joinery. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Industry Experience: Strong background in teaching and joinery trade. Experience with eco-friendly practices and innovation in these areas is highly desirable.
  • Teaching Experience: Preferred but not essential. 
  • Student-Focused Approach.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: The ideal candidate will be adaptable, resilient, and thrive as part of a team. 
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Self-motivation & Independence.
  • Commitment to Professional Development: teaching qualification is not essential for this role, but candidates must be committed to working towards one. Continuous professional development in both teaching and industrial updating is encouraged to stay at the forefront of industry and education trends.

About Us

This will complement the college’s existing tech centre which is home to its motor vehicle, electrical, joinery and welding workshops.
