Deputy Head of Engineering & Manufacturing

About the Role

We are looking for a Deputy Head of Engineering and Manufacturing to join our team. This is an exciting role to play a large part in developing the new Department of Engineering and Manufacturing. You will be pivotal in supporting the department in its journey to outstanding practices in all areas. We are one of the largest providers in this area and work intensively with employers in our region. The department is made up of 16+ year olds on study programmes, apprentices and adults on part time courses. We deliver qualifications that support the large manufacturing industry that we have in West Yorkshire, particularly the Leeds region.

In this role you will support the Head of Department strategically and also maintain operational quality within the team. 

Engineering and Manufacturing is a thriving, strong, exciting area and we want our learners to progress to the best opportunities in either employment or higher education. We offer pathways in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive and Electrical Installation. The department is dynamic and we have staff who are straight from industry who bring knowledge and experience to share with the learners.

 

What You Will Do

  • As Deputy Head you will support the Head in strategic planning of the curriculum to meet the key priorities of the area. Driving the department on its journey towards Outstanding.
  • You will oversee and manage the team to ensure that we have robust and good quality practices and Teaching & Assessment.
  • You will encourage and nurture a culture of excellence and develop a team with industry standard CPD.
  • A Quality Improvement skill set is essential to this role, ensuring that we meet all awarding body standards, and that we have strong processes in place to support our learners achieving their best.
  • You will have be able to support and drive the department in all areas of the EIF to demonstrate sustainable and positive results.

About You

  • Level 5 teaching qualification. Heads of Department are also expected to commit to the Education and Training Foundation Professional Standards.
  • Relevant professional level 4 qualification and/or degree.
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge.
  • Proven experience managing staff in an educational setting.
  • Experience of working positively with young people and adults
  • Knowledge of Government policy in relation to education and training, including its funding and curriculum / qualification reform.
