About the Role
Leeds City College is recruiting for a Teacher of ESOL (aged 19+) to join our team.
We are looking for a candidate with the following skills and experience:
- Ability to lead and facilitate group activities, foster positive group dynamics, manage conflict, and promote teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, motivate, and empower ESOL adults at very low language levels.
- Must possess empathy and understanding for the unique challenges faced by asylum seekers, migrants and those who are trauma-experienced.
- Experience working with diverse groups of people, promoting inclusion and sensitivity to individual backgrounds and cultures.
- Experience working with adult learners, particularly those facing barriers like unemployment, underachievement, or additional support needs.
Please note, successful candidates must be available to teach 2 evening classes per week.
What You Will Do
- Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.
- Develop the essential knowledge and understanding to teach ESOL learners.
- Create personalised learning plans to enable all students to progress in their language learning.
- Monitor students to achieve their targets and develop their skills to enable progression.
About You
- You should hold a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE, Delta). Celta is not recognised in the UK as a full teaching qualification, but successful applicants can be supported to complete an L5 Teaching Qualification with the college and with department financial support.
- Have UK ESOL based experience teaching ESOL students in colleges in the UK.
- Have a relevant degree in English or similar.
