Employability Tutor

About the Role

This role is based at Harrogate District Hospital.

Harrogate College are recruiting for an Employability Tutor. This role will be based at Harrogate District Hospital – working as part of the DFN Project Search supported internship scheme based at the hospital.

You will help recruit students to the programme, link with hospital departments to identify possible placements, assess intern progress and deliver sessions on employability skills.

DFN Project Search is a supported internship based at Harrogate District Hospital. A supported internship is a work-based study programme for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, designed as a bridge between education and employment. Three extended work placements at different departments in the hospital setting form the basis of our programme.

What You Will Do

  • Identify internship sites within the host business so that students can participate in a variety of work experiences to build marketable, competitive skills and leading to employment.
  • Plan with students, families, and support services to determine career interests, specific job preferences (hours, location, etc.), skills and abilities to develop an individualized approach to employment.
  • Identify and create solutions for behavioural habits that may interfere with gaining and maintaining employment
  • Teach employability skills such as communication, problem solving, teamwork, grooming, budgeting and self-advocacy.
  • Maintain student learning plans, setting appropriate long-term goals and short-term targets with students based on participation, skill development, attitude, etc. Review ILPs regularly and record progress.
  • Coordinate internal rotation opportunities within the host business and resulting reasonable adjustments, and necessary job support for students.

About You

  • Appropriate level 3 teaching qualification e.g. Level 3 Award in Education and Training, PTTLS (or willingness to work towards)
  • Highest level technical qualification in relevant work-related discipline.
  • Experience of working in industry within at least one of the relevant curriculum areas relating to the role (e.g. Employability skills).
  • Experience of delivery of training/ instructing groups and assessing learning.
  • Ability to create suitable targets for individual learners to support achievement and progression.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
