Learning Support Assistant (Part Time, Reduced Year)

About the Role

Keighley College are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join their team. You will be based predominantly at one of our campuses but could be required to work across sites depending on the students' needs. All of our sites are within a short traveling distance from the city centre.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be instrumental in supporting and encouraging our students to succeed. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, independent, supportive, and understanding and who is willing to learn and cooperate to meet the students' needs. 

Our Learning Support Assistants are an essential part of our SEND Provision. You will be working within a supportive team of around 70 professionals across the College who all have a passion for ensuring our students can achieve – no matter their background or ability.

This is a Part-Time, Reduced Year role: 19 hours per week, 36 weeks per year.

What You Will Do

  1. Provide in and out of class support to meet identified needs of students who have high needs (EHCPs) . 
  2. Provide curriculum teachers/assessors and SEND team members with verbal and written reports on students who have high needs or SEND and feedback against strategies used and progress towards outcomes on the EHCP. 
  3. Attend annual reviews as requested and attend student meetings as required to update on progress and behaviours. 
  4. May be involved in learners’ transport arrangements and helping students who have high needs to develop independent travel skills where needed. 
  5. At the direction of the teacher/assessor, accompanying small groups of learners on local excursions related to programme of learning. 
  6. Assist with personal care and medical requirements as necessary and support students who are less mobile and may use wheelchairs.
  7. Assistance in the preparation, support and participation of examinations and invigilation across the Group.
  8. Ability to participate in evening/weekend work as required.

About You

  1. You will be educated to Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or show a commitment to achieving this within one year of appointment. 
  2. You will have experience working as part of a team that supports students with high needs or SEND, helping to enhance their learning. This includes identifying effective strategies and supporting young people in developing the skills they need for adulthood.
  3. Able to assist with personal care/medical provisions including requirements of wheelchair users. 
  4. You will have clear oral and written and IT communication skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels in the college. 
  5. A strong awareness of disability issues and equality and diversity issues. 
  6. A willingness to be adaptable as role requires working across the college campus and off-site visits with learners. 
  7. Able to work effectively as a team member and being able to adapt and embrace change.  
  8. Be a passionate supporter and of equality, diversity and inclusion. and promote a safe environment for child, young people, and vulnerable adults to learn in.
