About the Role
This is a part-time, reduced year role: 22.2 hours per week, 38 weeks per year.
Are you a person who can inspire, motivate, and engage students in Health Science and Social Care? Do you have the passion to support learners with a range of needs, helping them to achieve their potential? If so, we want you to join our dynamic team. As a learning support assistant in our Health Science and Social Care Department, you will play a vital role, in providing essential support to students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
What You Will Do
- Support students with identified high needs, including those with SEND in the classroom to succeed academically and personally.
- Provide regular feedback, and written support plans for curriculum teachers, assessors, and the SEND team to track student progress.
- Provide in-class and out-of-class support for students with high needs.
- Work closely with the SEND team to monitor progress on Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP) and provide feedback on strategies used.
- Attend annual reviews and student meetings to update on student progress and behaviours.
- Support students in developing independent travel skills and help with transport arrangements if needed.
- Accompany small groups of students on local learning excursions.
- Assist with personal care and medical requirements for students who are less mobile, including those using wheelchairs (training provided).
About You
- Educated to Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy or a commitment to achieving this within one year of appointment.
- L2 Support Practitioners Qualification or willing to work towards.
- Experience of working in a team in an educational setting.
- Computer literate and able to use a range of on-line learning packages such as Google classroom.
- Understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act is essential.
