Learning Support Assistant (Reduced Year, Part-Time)

About the Role

This is a part-time, reduced-year role: 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. 

Leeds City College are recruiting Learning Support Assistants to join our team. This role requires an experienced SEND professional to lead through a matrix management approach across Luminate FE colleges for the placement and support of students with Educational Health Care Plans. This will include physically supporting students within the classroom, helping with personal care, and, at times, pushing a wheelchair. Additionally, you will be an operational main point of contact with local authorities and contribute to positive outcomes for disadvantaged and vulnerable students.

What You Will Do

  • Provide support within the classroom and off-site visits.
  • Help provide support for students with additional needs ie essential wheelchair user, hearing impairment, visual impairment etc.
  • Involved in planning, preparation and assessment of learning as part of the course team.
  • Providing in-class support to meet needs of students who have high needs.
  • Providing curriculum teachers/assessors and Learning Support team members with verbal and written reports on students who have high needs or SEN.
  • Assisting with emergency evacuation plans and practices, and helping with all emergency evacuations.
  • Keeping accurate and timely records, recording progress and strategies used, as required.

About You

  • Must have English and Mathematics at Level 2 / GCSE grade C/ level 3 or above.
  • Relevant experience, knowledge and understanding of working in the Sector - Personal care, supporting students who use wheelchairs.Relevant qualification in related area.
  • Must be IT literate.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with staff/students at all levels in the college.
