Pastoral and Progression Coach

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Pastoral and Progression Coach to provide tailored support to our learners within the Enterprise and Employability Department. In this role, you will be committed to making a positive difference in young people’s lives whilst supporting and developing their learning. Your mentoring, academic support, and pastoral support will help enable an outstanding learning environment for our learners, providing the interventions they need to succeed.

The School of Enterprise and Employability offers a wide range of study programmes to both 16-18 and 19+ learners. Our course offers range from Level 1, for learners who may be applying to college with limited previous experience of qualifications through to Level 2 programmes of study which enable students to progress to higher education or supervisory positions within the industry.

What You Will Do

  • Support a “case load” of students across the Enterprise and Employability department.
  • Give academic support, extra encouragement, mentoring and pastoral support to all students inside and outside the classroom.
  • Work with teaching staff to support the achievement of excellent outcomes for each student.
  • Support teaching staff where individual student behaviour within a group is impacting on the learning of the group as a whole.
  • Assist in the induction of the students into the curriculum and college life.
  • Work with the students in and out of class to help them develop strategies to get the most from their course activities.
  • Participate in running breakfast club and drop-in sessions to a rota system.
  • Contribute towards exam preparation sessions.

About You

  • Good general education at NVQ level 2 or equivalent including literacy & numeracy at Level 2.
  •  Experience of working/dealing with students, particularly age 16+.
  • Good standard of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Some knowledge of barriers to learning and ways to overcome them, particularly with disaffected young people.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • Able to work positively & effectively as a member of a team and on own initiative.
