About the Role
Leeds City College are seeking a dedicated Placement Support Coach to join our Education and Early Years Department.
This role is part time - 30 hours per week and reduced year - 40 weeks per year. The actual pro rata salary for this role is £21, 851 with progression to £23,146 per annum.
In this role, you will support a caseload of students as they complete work placements in early years settings and primary schools, helping them build confidence, professional skills, and readiness for the workplace.
You will provide one-to-one and small-group coaching to prepare students for their placements and offer ongoing support throughout. Acting as the main point of contact for both students and placement providers, you will visit students in their early years or school placements, provide guidance, and help them make the most of their experience. You will also work closely with teaching staff to ensure placement learning links effectively with their curriculum and helps them achieve excellent outcomes.
Regular reviews with students and placement providers will be part of your role to monitor progress, address any concerns, and celebrate achievements. You will also assist with placement inductions and contribute to departmental meetings, with some evening or weekend work required.
Our department supports around 600 students, and we are passionate about building their confidence, developing their skills, and preparing them for future employment or further study. We are looking for a motivated and approachable coach who can inspire young people and ensure they thrive both in college and during their placements in early years settings and primary schools.
What You Will Do
- Support a “caseload” of students across the department.
- Deliver 1:1 or small-group coaching to help students build confidence and work-readiness.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance during placements, acting as a key contact for both students and employers.
- Work with teaching staff to support the achievement of excellent outcomes for each student.
- Assist in the induction of the students into the placement, curriculum and college life.
- Ability to participate in evening/weekend work as required.
- Conduct regular reviews with students and employers to assess progress and address any concerns.
- Attend internal meetings to report on placement activity and learner progress.
About You
- The ideal candidate will have experience working with students aged 16–19, with a strong understanding of the challenges and barriers young people may face, particularly those who are disengaged or require additional support.
- You will bring a good standard of digital literacy required for tracking, and communication. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, alongside excellent organisational and administrative abilities.
- You will be confident in building positive, supportive relationships with students, motivating and inspiring them to make the most of their placements in early years settings and primary schools.
- Your ability to work both independently and as part of a team will be key in ensuring students receive consistent, tailored support.
- A passion for inspiring the next generation of the education and childcare workforce is essential, alongside recent experience of teaching, instructing, or coaching that reflects active learning approaches and differentiated support.
