Programme Manager - Humanities

About the Role

Leeds Sixth Form College are seeking an exceptional candidate to manage and develop our Humanities team, currently responsible for delivering A-Level courses in English, History, Politics, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Geography.

Leeds Sixth Form College offers a combined provision of A Levels, GCSE's and vocational courses which provides a diverse range of full-time education programmes for learners aged 16-18 and adult learners aged 19+. The provision ranges from Level 2 to Level 3 and includes both traditional academic and vocational pathways.

For 16-18 year olds, the curriculum includes over 20 A-Level subjects, as well as a range of BTEC courses with varying weightings. This ensures we develop learners in a wide variety of subject areas to meet local employer and skills needs. We complement this with a GCSE-focused provision to further widen opportunities for local learners.

What You Will Do

  • Lead our Humanities team, which currently comprises some of our most popular A levels. 

  • Keep up to date with curriculum developments and support your staff team to drive forward improvements.

  • Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding to learners.

  • Responsible for recording student progress, motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression.

  • Reflect on what works best in teaching and learning to meet the diverse needs of students.

  • Adapt curriculum delivery methods to maximise their effectiveness, including through the use of technology.

  • Plan, prepare and develop effective schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching and learning resources including the development of online learning resources for identified modules.

  • Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified modules.

  • Develop and employ effective assessment activities for identified modules.

  • Assess student work, provide constructive and timely feedback to motivate and inspire the learner to improve and record learners’ progress for identified modules.

About You

  • You will hold an Honours Degree in English literature or language, History,  Philosophy or a relevant subject

  • Have relevant experience in teaching in this subject area to 16-18 year-olds up to level 3.

  • A recognised teaching qualification at level 5

  • A desire to drive improvements

  • Experience of leading others.

  • Ability to lead activities in the development and delivery of strategies to improve retention, achievement, success and attendance rates for groups of learners
