About the Role
The Department of Careers, Work Experience & Progression is part of the Student Life Directorate. The Directorate leads on activities and strategies which contribute to an outstanding further education student experience closely aligned with the college and group strategic objectives.
The Progression and Work Skills Lead oversees the work skills strand in Careers, Work Experience and Progression (CWP). This work is integral to CWP's objective to support students through guidance, opportunities, and experience to make informed life choices about their career pathways and destinations.
This role will lead a small team of pathways officers to deliver awareness and information sessions as well as more bespoke interventions such as industry insight days to support students to decide upon their progression pathway. This engagement will be directed to Higher Education, Apprenticeships, Employment & Self Employment and is intended to inform students’ career planning, enable them to make informed decisions and identify & develop the skills and attributes required for their future careers.
What You Will Do
- Lead a team of Pathways and Progression Officers, coordinating a range of interventions to inform student destination pathways (including skills development, work readiness and resilience activities).
- Drive innovative delivery practice (tangible & virtual) with reference to the range, quality and purposeful student engagement and scope of external opportunities. Contextualise activities to the skills agenda and regional LMI.
- Work with the wider Careers, Work Experience and Progression Team to draw on employer contributions, Higher Education Providers and alumni to inform and energise workshops, talks and resources.
- Work with curriculum departments to establish a programme of timetabled delivery to support students to be informed of and prepared for destination pathways - HE, Apprenticeships, Employment & Self Employment.
- Manage your own caseload of activities including workshops, project innovation and delivery.
About You
- Degree or equivalent higher-level qualification.
- Knowledge of 16-19 education, including technical and academic education.
- Knowledge of Destination pathways - Higher Education, Apprenticeships, Employment and self-employment.
- Experience of running workshops or delivering group sessions to students aged 14-19 and 19+.
- Experience of leading teams and activities, and mentoring, coaching or supporting staff.
- Work with internal and external partners
- Use of a variety of digital platforms and IT software
- To record, monitor and analyse quantitative and qualitative data and write reports for a variety of audiences.
