Teacher - Counselling

About the Role

Leeds City College are seeking an inspiring and dedicated Teacher of Counselling to work with our adult learners. 

The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and learning, with the ability to engage, support, and motivate adult students on their journey into or through the counselling profession. You will play a vital role in helping learners build confidence, develop practical skills, and achieve their personal and professional goals.

Based at Rothwell Centre, our department supports adult learners from a wide range of backgrounds, many of whom are returning to education after time away or seeking a career change. Gaining a counselling qualification can be truly life-changing, enabling progression into employment, further study, or higher education. As part of our committed team, you will help foster belief in learners’ potential, support their placement practice, and guide them through a positive, inclusive educational experience. We use restorative and person-centred approaches to encourage self-awareness, resilience, and pride in personal growth. You will be part of a department that believes in the transformative power of education and supports every adult learner in realising their unique strengths.

Please note, this role includes teaching days and evenings, as required. 

What You Will Do

  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.
  • Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified modules.
  • Deliver and assess essential knowledge and understanding to learners.
  • Be responsible for recording student progress - adapt curriculum delivery methods to maximise their effectiveness, including through the use of technology.

About You

  • Level 5 teaching qualification.
  • Relevant counselling qualifications.
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge and recent delivery in the Further Education/Adult Education Sector.
  • Recent teaching delivery which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
  • Significant supervised clinical experience.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate learners to achieve their optimum.
  • A passion for subjects related to counselling.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
