About the Role
Leeds Sixth Form College is recruiting for a Teacher - GCSE English.
Leeds Sixth Form College is a combined provision of A Levels, GCSE's and vocational courses which provides a diverse range of full-time education programmes for learners aged 16-18 and adult learners aged 19+. The provision ranges from Level 2 to Level 3 and includes both traditional academic and vocational pathways. The English and maths provision within this also services the Sport department.
For 16-18 year olds the curriculum includes over 20 A Level subjects as well as a range of BTEC courses with different weightings, to ensure we develop learners in a wide variety of subject areas to meet local employer and skill needs. We complement this with a GCSE-focused provision to further widen opportunities for local learners.
The advertised role is to work within our English and Maths provision in which we have 16-18 and 19+ learners studying resit GCSE’s alongside their vocational course (which could be Applied science, Step Up to A Levels and/or Sport). It would suit someone who is looking for an alternative to working in a secondary school environment and/or someone that has interest in working in a sixth form setting with the range of courses on offer.
What You Will Do
- Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans for GCSE English learners at Level 2

Develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of learners

Assess and provide feedback on student progress

Support learners in achieving their educational goals

Ensure compliance with all college policies and procedures

Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills

Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall learning experience

Maintain and update knowledge of the subject and / or vocational area and of educational research to develop evidence-based practice

Motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression
About You
- You will have English and Mathematics at Level 2 or above and a willingness to improve in one or both disciplines to level 3 or above.

Appropriate level 5 teaching qualification e.g. Level 5 Award in Education and Training, QTLS or PGCE

You will be highly motivate to engage and inspire learners to promote achievement and develop their skills to enable progression.

You will ensure an excellent learning experience which allows learners to progress to a high level, higher education or employment or employment and in which their attainment is maximized.

Enabling learners to share responsibility for their own learning and assessment, setting goals that stretch and challenge will be a key aspect of your role and you will contribute to the learner tutorial process ensuring regular review of learner progress and report evenings take place.

You will work alongside the team to ensure that the learner retention, achievement and progression rates within all the School’s provision exceed national average year-on-year while planning, developing and delivering a curriculum which meets the needs of the industry/sector.

You will apply restorative practice to your communications with learners and colleagues and be a proactive, flexible and supportive member of the team.

Promote excellence and continuously improve practice.
