About the Role

Study Programmes at Keighley College are looking for a Health and Social and Childcare teacher. Our department is proud of its specialist health and childcare training resources, multi-sensory provision, simulated ward, digital technology labs and state of the art Science lab. Keighley College is a fantastic place for both study and work, with learners who thrive in an environment where staff promote high challenge and offer generous support. 

The role will work closely with the Education and Early Years and Health teams to support students academically and emotionally to achieve their qualifications. The department has dedicated staff working within it to support approximately 300 students. Achieving their qualification can be life changing to students who wish to go on to further study, into employment or higher education. Our team is committed to developing student belief in their own ability, engaging them in lessons and encouraging progress. We believe in creating a positive, inclusive learning environment, using restorative and supportive approaches to develop learners' confidence. We are looking for an inspiring Health and Social and Childcare teacher who has a passion for teaching and learning along with the ability to engage and motivate students. The ideal candidate will be passionate about students, ensuring that they are provided with an outstanding learning journey whilst at Leeds City College.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver inspiring sessions across the curriculum using a wide range of teaching methods for identified modules.
  • Plan, prepare and develop schemes of work, session plans, teaching and learning resources, learning and assessment plans.

  • Be responsible for recording student progress.

  • Motivate and inspire students to achieve targets and develop their skills to enable progression.

  • Ensure high retention, achievement, progress, attendance, and progression rates.

  • Maintain effective and high-quality course delivery.

  • Responsible for developing new units, modules and courses in line with government policy, awarding organisation developments and student demand as well as local community, economic and employer requirements. 

  • Deliver knowledge, prepare teaching plans, and assess student work with timely feedback.

  • Keep the team updated on subject knowledge and best practices.

  • Inspire students to achieve and track their progress.

  • Enhance curriculum delivery for maximum effectiveness.

  • Promote courses and provide advice during open days and enrolment.

  • Conduct self-assessments, maintain quality plans, and verify/moderate internally.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • A L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE).
  • Relevant highest level vocational qualification or degree in teaching subject.
  • Recent teaching delivery in relevant subject areas (PGCE teaching placements/ experience would also qualify here) which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
  • Experience of setting appropriate SMART targets to ensure progression of learners.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible towards the requirements of different learner needs.
  • Experience, knowledge and skills to enable delivery of a range of levels across the curriculum.
  • Experience of positively managing student and group progression, advice and guidance in a school or Further Education setting, with positive outcomes.
  • The ability to plan and deliver quality teaching across identified cohorts and ensure consistency of high delivery within teams.
  • The ability to lead activities in the development and delivery of strategies to improve retention, achievement, success and attendance rates for groups of learners.
  • Exceptional verbal /written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills, to ensure they Inspire, motivate and engage the next generation of health or care practitioners.
  • Act with honesty and integrity to maintain high standards of ethics and professional standards.
  • Manage and promote restorative practice approaches and the strengthening of relationships.
  • Role model and promote a positive image of the college.
