Teacher - Tutorial (PHSCE)

What You Will Do

• Plan and deliver engaging, relevant and inclusive PHSCE and tutorial sessions to students across Study Programmes.
• Deliver key themes including safeguarding, healthy relationships, wellbeing, equality and diversity, British values, financial awareness, online safety and preparation for adulthood.
• Create opportunities for students to discuss and explore real-world issues in a safe, respectful and appropriately challenging environment.
• Support students to develop their confidence, resilience, independence, communication and decision-making skills.
• Embed careers, employability and workplace behaviours, helping students understand the skills and attitudes employers value.
• Adapt teaching to meet a wide range of starting points, including students with SEND/High Needs and those who may face barriers to learning or participation.
• Use assessment, student voice and participation to understand the impact of the tutorial curriculum and continually improve delivery.
• Work closely with curriculum teachers, pastoral teams, safeguarding, careers and support colleagues to provide a joined-up student experience.
• Identify concerns relating to students’ safeguarding, wellbeing, engagement or progress and ensure these are communicated and escalated appropriately.
• Contribute to enrichment, themed events, workshops and wider activities that make the Study Programme experience engaging, ambitious and memorable.

You will be a positive, engaging and confident teacher who is passionate about helping young people develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours they need for life beyond college.

You will:

• Be an enthusiastic and engaging teacher who can bring PHSCE and tutorial topics to life.
• Have the confidence to facilitate discussions around sensitive, challenging and topical issues.
• Understand the importance of safeguarding, inclusion, equality, diversity and British values within Further Education.
• Be able to build strong, professional relationships with young people from a wide range of backgrounds and starting points.
• Understand the barriers some young people face and be able to challenge, motivate and inspire them.
• Be creative in your approach, using real-life scenarios, debate, digital resources and external speakers to make learning meaningful.
• Have high expectations for attendance, behaviour, participation and personal development.
• Be able to adapt teaching to support learners with SEND/High Needs and differing levels of confidence and ability.
• Work collaboratively with curriculum, pastoral, safeguarding, careers and support teams.
• Be organised, reflective and committed to continually improving the quality and impact of the student experience.
