We are looking for an enthusiastic musician-educator to work across a range of classes including Music Theory & Practical Musicianship, Leeds Junior Conservatoire Experience Band and Composition, helping students to deepen their understanding of music whilst developing their creativity, collaborative skills and musical confidence.
Leeds Junior Conservatoire (LJC) is a thriving community of young musicians, creators and performers from across Yorkshire and the North, offering exceptional opportunities for students aged 8–18 to develop their musical skills and creativity.
At LJC, we foster an inclusive, supportive environment where every young person can thrive. As part of our collaborative team of passionate educators and industry professionals, you will help nurture artistic ambition, self-expression and a lifelong love of music.
(Hourly rate is inclusive of prep time and holiday pay)
What You Will Do
As part of this role, you will teach across four areas of our programme:
Vocal Skills
Develop students' core singing technique through work on breath control, vocal health, tone production, musicianship, stylistic awareness and performance confidence. Students explore a variety of contemporary and commercial repertoire while building strong vocal foundations.
Musical Theatre Singing
Support students to develop the specialist skills required for musical theatre performance, combining vocal technique with storytelling, interpretation, characterisation and stagecraft. Students explore repertoire from a range of musical theatre styles and eras.
Advanced Vocals
Work with experienced and committed young singers to refine advanced vocal technique, artistry and performance practice. Students are encouraged to develop their own artistic identity, interpret challenging repertoire and prepare for future musical study and performance opportunities.
Industry Insights
Introduce students to the wide range of careers and opportunities within the music and performing arts industries. Through discussion, practical activities and guest insights where appropriate, students gain a greater understanding of the skills, pathways and professional expectations of working as a contemporary artist, vocalist or performer.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a practitioner who is passionate about vocal education and helping young people discover their creative potential through singing and performance.
You will:
- Deliver engaging, inclusive and differentiated teaching for students aged 8–18, fostering creativity, confidence and musical independence.
Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to curriculum development, assessment and teaching administration.
Collaborate with colleagues to support student success, maintain high teaching standards, and contribute to performances, open days and other LJC events.
About You
- A degree in Music, Vocal Performance, Musical Theatre, Music Education or a related subject, with expertise in vocal performance and vocal pedagogy.
- Experience teaching or working with young people under 18, including students of mixed abilities and those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Strong communication, organisation and classroom management skills, with the ability to facilitate engaging group learning and performance activities.
- A commitment to inclusive music and performing arts education, ensuring all students can participate, develop their skills and achieve their potential.
- A commitment to safeguarding young people and promoting equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Availability to work on Saturdays during term time.
- Desirable - Professional experience as a vocalist, musical theatre performer, vocal coach or music educator, including experience preparing students for auditions, performances or progression to further musical study, supported by a recognised teaching qualification, relevant continuing professional development, or current knowledge of the music and performing arts industries.
