Leeds Sixth Form College is a diverse and inclusive institution offering a wide range of full-time education programmes for learners aged 16-18 and adult learners aged 19+. Our provision spans Level 2 to Level 3, combining traditional academic A Levels with vocational pathways to provide comprehensive education for all our students.
Please note, this is a part-time role of 18.5 hours per week.
What You Will Do
As an A Level Lecturer in Fine Art and Textiles, your key responsibilities will include:
Designing and delivering innovative and engaging A Level Fine Art, Textiles, and Art, Craft and Design (ACD) classes to diverse learners, including 16-18 and adult students of varying ability.
Introduce students to a broad and inspiring range of art and textile artists, influences, critical approaches, and practical mediums, encouraging experimentation and skill development.
Teach a range of practical art and design techniques with a strong emphasis on developing students’ creative and critical thinking skills through practical experimentation and thoughtful exploration.
You will be responsible for ensuring high rates of student retention, achievement, value-added, and attendance across your identified cohorts.
You will be responsible for contributing to the future-proofing of the curriculum by developing new units, modules, and courses. This development must align with evolving government policy, awarding organisation developments, student demand, and local community/employer requirements.
About You
Qualifications and Experience
- Hold a Level 5 Teaching Qualification.
Possess Level 2 (or higher) qualifications in both English and Maths, with a willingness to improve in one or both disciplines to Level 3 or above.
Demonstrable experience delivering A-Level Fine Art and Textiles in a Further Education (FE) setting.
Skills and Expertise
You will possess a deep knowledge and practical skills in a diverse range of traditional and contemporary Fine Art and Textile techniques, including (but not limited to):
Fine Art: Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking.
Textiles: Weaving, Knitting, Dyeing, Embroidery, Screen Printing, Fabric Manipulation, and Surface Pattern Design.
You will have a strong understanding of Art History and Critical Theory to enrich student learning.
A proven ability to set ambitious student targets and possess the strategies and skills to effectively help all students achieve their full potential.
An ability to deliver teaching in an engaging and inspiring manner, demonstrating excellent rapport with students of all ages and abilities.
