Leeds City College are recruiting for an Engineering Assessor to join our team.

As an Engineering Assessor at Printworks Campus, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of engineers. Your primary responsibilities will include managing a caseload of apprentice learners. You may be required to design and implement innovative teaching methods to enhance the learning experience and ensure that students are well-prepared for careers in various engineering fields.
Overall, this role requires a dynamic individual with a passion for engineering education, a commitment to student success, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, industry partners, and the broader community.
There may be scope for this role to be classified as a Lead Assessor – this will be discussed with candidates at interview. Our Assessor salary band is £31,138 to £35,036 and Lead Assessor salary band is £34,019 to £39,424.

What You Will Do
The focus of this role is to visit our partner employers and assess apprentices studying the engineering apprenticeship standards. You'll complete administrative work connected with the assessments and apprenticeships and provide prompt and constructive feedback to candidates soon after assessment.
Plan and deliver high-quality Engineering lessons to learners at Level 2 and Level 3 level.
Develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs of learners.
Assess and provide feedback on student progress.
Support learners in achieving their educational goals.
Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.
Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall learning experience.
Conduct regular workplace visits as directed to observe and assess apprentices, ensuring progress is recorded via the e-portfolio system.
Facilitate scheduled day-release sessions at college, ensuring all learning activities contribute to the development of knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
Ensure all learning activities are recorded on OneFile and off the job hours are on track.
Prepare apprentices for end-point assessments, supporting them to achieve high grades through structured teaching and targeted assessment preparation
Support apprentices in developing digital skills and embedding English and maths into all aspects of delivery
Coordinate effectively with employers, mentors, IQAs, awarding bodies, and internal teams to ensure smooth delivery and assessment.
Attend standardisation meetings, team briefings, performance reviews, and CPD activities to maintain professional competence

About You
Qualified to Level 3 or above in Engineering
Experience working within the Engineering Industry
We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about their subject and has a demonstrable commitment to using their expertise to create an excellent teaching and learning experience for our learners.
You need to have in depth teaching experience in the field of mechanical Engineering and ideally be a qualified assessor and teacher - where this is not the case we will support you in achieving the necessary qualifications. We ask that you are motivated by helping others to learn, and that you really want to make a difference to people's lives.
You will have English and Mathematics at Level 2 or above
You will ensure an excellent learning experience which allows learners to progress to a high level, higher education or employment and in which their attainment is maximized.
Enabling learners to share responsibility for their own learning and assessment, setting goals that stretch and challenge will be a key aspect of your role
You will work alongside the team to ensure that the learner retention, achievement and progression rates within all the department’s provisions exceed national average year-on-year while planning, developing and delivering a curriculum which meets the needs of the industry/sector.
You will apply restorative practice to your communications with learners and colleagues and be a proactive, flexible and supportive member of the team.
Promote excellence and continuously improve practice.
