About the Role
This is an exciting new role in collaboration with a renowned charity CATCH based in Harehills, Leeds. We are delivering a range of courses to support our students with their social, emotional and professional development through a range of volunteering opportunities. We believe providing students with practical ‘hands on’ experience will complement the course they are studying whilst enhancing their skills and knowledge.
With oversight from the Head of Public Services Department and CATCH Operations Manager, the role will lead on overseeing the day to day activities of a cohort of students and volunteers (whilst they are based at CATCH), deliver training and supervision as required. The role will also provide support with volunteer attraction, recruitment and development from our base of students and external candidates. CATCH uses an innovative digital volunteer development application known as ‘SuperStars’ and the role will focus on its integration with students and volunteers.
The role will also oversee our outdoor learning initiative at CATCH whilst taking a lead on the CATCH Educational Farm, supervising and coordinating students and the volunteer workforce, arranging a series of practical sessions they can get involved with on a daily and/or weekly basis.
You will need to possess strong communication and engagement skills to build relationships (in particular with young people). Much of this role is about being pro-active and using initiative therefore you will be well-organised, willing to take responsibility and accountability. You will be able to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst ensuring key performance indicators are achieved and the management team are kept informed of progress. As you will be working with young people from age 11 right through to 19, you will need some experience or knowledge of key issues affecting young people.
What You Will Do
- Be the main point of contact for Leeds City College students whilst they are based at CATCH.
- Support with the supervision and development of students.
- Lead on all aspects of the day to day administration and supervision of a large team of volunteers and their activities, developing and inspiring them to develop best possible practice to meet the needs of children accessing the services, recognising and deploying volunteers’ strengths and acting as an authentic role model.
- Share knowledge and skills to enhance the professional development of all students and volunteers.
- Work in partnership with CATCH Team Leaders to deliver the volunteer training programme, embed the SuperStars Volunteer Development Programme and ensure regular, good quality, reflective 1:1 and group supervision for volunteers is made available.
- Respond appropriately to any safeguarding concerns; demonstrating an understanding of, and complying at all times with Leeds City College and CATCH procedures for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
- Support the management team in planning, monitoring and reviewing the development of the service in line with identified priorities, targets and outcomes.
- Track, collate and report target data for performance monitoring reviews as requested.

- You will need to be resilient, driven, and professional who can build strong relationships.
- Strong interpersonal skills and confident.
- Be able to Relationship build - able to establish rapport and build strong relationships with students and partner organisations.
- Strong communication skills - ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding issues and the management of risk.
- Ability to work some hours outside of regular hours and to be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
- A commitment to organisational growth and development and a willingness to contribute to bids, tenders and funding applications.
